Community Women's Fund Grantee In The News
Maternity Care Coalition, a WOMEN’S WAY funded agency, was featured in a story by the BBC about women who are incarcerated and pregnant. View this compelling video now. It addresses the issue of shackling while in jail (now banned in Philadelphia). Advocates are working to ban the practice statewide. In late January, the Senate Judiciary Committee, in a unanimous vote, endorsed the Healthy Birth for Incarcerated Women Act, which would make Pennsylvania the seventh state to outlaw the practice.
Community Women's Fund Grantee In The News
Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), a longtime WOMEN’S WAY funded agency was featured in the Philadelphia Weekly. Read the article, including a wonderful story about one of their newest clients. Marquita Irby, the young mother of two featured in the article, was one of the lucky ones. As you’ll read in the article, WCRP received 1,500 applications for its most recent development of 40 units. The lack of affordable housing in Philadelphia is startling, even more so with the current economy. We are proud to support the wonderful work of WCRP which not only provides affordable housing, but works to create a voice for low-income women and their families through leadership development and advocacy.
