Support Anti-Human Trafficking Legislation

10/13/11

Did you know that human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world, and it is a crisis taking place right here in Pennsylvania. It is a horrific crime that drastically impacts women as 80% human trafficking victims are women and girls.

The Posting of the National Human Trafficking Hotline Act (SB 338), state legislation that would require posting of the National Hotline so trafficking victims can call to get help, may be up for a Committee vote on Tuesday, October 18th. This would be a HUGE step towards passage of this critical bill!

In order to ensure a favorable vote, legislators need to hear from YOU!

Please take a few moments this week to call the members of the Senate Labor & Industry Committee and urge them to support Senate Bill 338. If you only have time to make one call, please call Senator Gordner, Chair of this committee.

Here is a call script you can use:

"Hi, my name is [your name]. I am calling to ask Senator [name of Senator] to support legislation help end human trafficking in Pennsylvania and assist victims of this horrific crime - SB 338. This important bill requires posting of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline by certain establishments to help victims of this brutal crime access help. Can I count on Senator [name of Senator] to support this life-saving legislation? Thank you for your time and consideration."

After you make the call, please email Rebecca Foley, WOMEN'S WAY's Director of Public Policy, to report who you made the calls to and the outcome of the conversation.

WOMEN'S WAY is a proud member of the Philadelphia Anti-Trafficking Coalition and Chair of the Coalition's Advocacy Committee.
