Latinas Unidas

WOMEN’S WAY supports the work of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania with a grant for its Latinas Unidas program – a unique program that teaches teen girls and their mothers in the Kennett Square area about sexuality in a way that is effective and respectful of their Latina culture.

Tanya's Story

Though Chester County is the wealthiest county in Pennsylvania, Tanya was one of the thousands of women struggling with poverty and having trouble accessing basic needs.  Tanya was facing a number of difficulties when she first went to the Maternal and Child Health Consortium’s (MCHC) Healthy Start site in Coatesville, a WOMEN’S WAY grantee.

In the summer of 2004, while working as a clerk at a gas station in western Pennsylvania, 19-year old Donna (not her real name) was sexually assaulted at gunpoint by an unknown assailant, who also stole money from the cash register. Donna reported the crimes to the local police.
