In honor of the 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Melissa Weiler Gerber and Ann Fessler, winner of WOMEN'S WAY's prestigious Ernesta Drinker Ballard Book Prize penned a moving commentary piece about Choice in America which appeared in the January 22nd edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Read it here. The Ernesta Drinker Ballard Book Prize honors a female author for her work in advancing the dialogue about women’s rights. Established in 2007, this prize honors the legacy of Ernesta Drinker Ballard, a WOMEN’S WAY founder, first president of its Board of Directors and extraordinary champion for women and girls. The 2008 event honors Ann Fessler for The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades before Roe v. Wade. In this deeply moving and myth-shattering work, Ann Fessler unearths the astonishing untold history of the million and a half women who surrendered children for adoption due to enormous family and social pressure in the decades between World War II and Roe v. Wade. Fessler will be presented with the award on March 6, 2008 at 5:30pm at a free event at Moore College of Art & Design, 20th Street and the Parkway. For more info and to RSVP click here.
