Did you know that the average age for a girl to be forced to enter into sex trafficking here in the U.S. is just 12 years old? Or that over 300,000 American citizens fall victim to trafficking each year? Human trafficking is a horrific practice that enslaves members of our communities; they are coerced, forced or tricked for sexual exploitation or labor. What many don't realize is that this is not just a global problem; it is happening right here in our area and it is disproportionately affecting women. In fact, approximately 80% of all trafficking victims are women and, too often, girls.
Learn more about what trafficking is and what WOMEN'S WAY is doing to fight against it by listening to our most recent Lunchtime Policy Briefing held on Jnauary 24, 2013. This briefing is part of our bi-annual call series aimed at raising awareness around the policy issues we work on to bring about change for women and girls.
