Meet our Fourth Cohort of Change the Narrative Fellows!

We’re excited to introduce our fourth cohort of Change the Narrative Fellows!

The Change the Narrative Fellowship is dedicated to equipping women and gender-expansive individuals who have faced economic insecurity with the tools to share their stories effectively through professional-grade audio, visual, and print mediums. (Take a look at last year’s final videos here.)

This program serves a vital purpose: to raise awareness about the racial and gender disparities in economic opportunities and to inspire action within both the public and private sectors to enhance economic security throughout the Philadelphia region. Ultimately, the stories of our Fellows are widely disseminated and easily accessible through our partner organizations. Fellows also engage with journalists, policymakers, and philanthropists to pinpoint actionable steps for improving economic security in the region.

For our fourth cohort, the Change The Narrative Fellowship will focus center on the experiences of incarceration and reentry for women and gender-expansive folks impacted by the carceral system. Rather than producing individual videos this year, our Fellows will share their experiences collectively in a podcast. Produced by our partners at Love Now Media, this podcast will highlight the connection between incarceration and wealth extraction, dive deep into how the carceral system perpetuates the gender wealth gap, and uplift the systems of support that are required, but often not accessible, for reentering folks to build and sustain a dignified life.

Through a blend of interviews, storytelling, and research, our Fellows will challenge prevailing assumptions surrounding incarceration and advocate for a shift in policy and narrative, pushing us closer toward a more liberatory economy.

Our fourth cohort was made possible thanks to a $100,000 grant from HFGF Foundation!
