For Immediate Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 9th, 2023) – WOMEN’S WAY, the Greater Philadelphia region’s leading nonprofit dedicated to gender and racial equity, is proud to announce that Kathryn Kolbert Esq. will be awarded their highest honor, the Lucretia Mott Award, for her long and distinguished career advancing reproductive rights for women and all people.

A renowned public-interest attorney, journalist, activist, and nonprofit executive, Kolbert has been recognized by The National Law Journal as one of the “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America.”  Kolbert appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court arguing the 1992 landmark case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Her success has been widely credited with saving Roe v. Wade – until both Roe and Casey were overruled by the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization last year.

“Kathryn Kolbert is a true champion of women, girls, and gender-expansive people everywhere,” said Diane Cornman-Levy, Chief Disruptor at WOMEN’S WAY. “Her bold, committed, and unwavering leadership has been instrumental in advancing reproductive rights and has ignited the spark for generations of future reproductive rights advocates and changemakers. We are honored to recognize her as our 45th Lucretia Mott Honoree.”

While her work has had a profound impact nationwide, Kolbert has deep ties to the Greater Philadelphia region. As a graduate of Temple University’s School of Law, previous staff attorney at Community Legal Services and Women’s Law Project, and thought leader at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, Kolbert is well regarded for her work in the region and impact she has had on the lives of many individuals and institutions throughout.

“I am deeply honored to receive the WOMEN’S WAY Lucretia Mott Award” said Kathryn Kolbert, Esq. “The ability to decide how, when, and with whom to have children is central to women’s equality and a fundamental human right.  I am proud to have dedicated my career to fighting for reproductive freedom and justice.”

Kolbert will receive the Lucretia Mott Award on Thursday, May 18th, 2023 at the WOMEN’S WAY 45th Annual Celebration – the nonprofit’s signature annual event and one of the most highly anticipated non-profit fundraisers in the Greater Philadelphia area. This year’s theme, Spark Collective Action, will honor the changemakers that are working to make the region one where all women, girls, and gender-expansive people can thrive while also raising crucial funds to support WOMEN’S WAY.
