PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) – A one-of-a-kind conference for the Philadelphia area is bringing together women, leaders and stakeholders from different backgrounds in an effort to find solutions to gender wealth inequalities.
Kelly Sheard, Director of the WOMEN'S WAY Gender Wealth Institute, says they launched a survey earlier this year gathering information about Philadelphia women's experiences with wealth. The findings, as well as what women learned, will be discussed at their second annual summit on Friday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quorum at the University City Science Center.
Their goal is to put forth collective ideas and action to close the gender wealth gap which can, in turn, empower healthier communities.
“So when wealth is accumulated, we live and retire with greater dignity, freedom, and peace of mind,” she explained, “ … our communities are prosperous and resilient and vibrant … future generations have the freedom to dream big and become all that they can truly be.”
She says attendees can expect to leave with a greater awareness and understanding of what drives the gender wealth gap and steps you can take to help close it.
According to the Gender Wealth Institute, women earn an average of 77 cents for every $1 earned by men.
More information about the summit can be found on their website.
