Recap: Closing the Gender Wealth Gap Forum – Tackling Wealth Supremacy
“I am deliberately playing off, of course, white supremacy when I devised the term ‘wealth supremacy,’ because what I’m trying to say is the whole thing is illegitimate. We know that racism is illegitimate. We know that sexism is illegitimate. They’re not gone. But by taking their legitimacy, we have really undercut them. And that’s what I’m after here. I’m trying to show us how we can undercut the legitimacy of this system of wealth supremacy.”
On January 17th, we kicked off our 2024 series of the Closing the Gender Wealth Gap Forum with “From Extraction to Equity – Tackling Wealth Supremacy.” In this discussion, our special guests Diane Cornman-Levy, Chief Disruptor at WOMEN’S WAY, and Marjorie Kelly, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Democracy Collaborative and author of Wealth Supremacy: How the Extractive Economy and Biased Rules of Capitalism Drive Today’s Crises, explored the topic of wealth supremacy and how a deeper understanding of it can help us build a more democratic economy – and close the gender wealth gap.
