50th Anniversary Story
By: Ti'Aza H., Change the Narrative Fellowship – Cohort 3
The moment I received acceptance into the Change the Narrative Fellowship Cohort 3 reshaped how I would exist both personally and professionally moving forward. I had been impacted by various socioeconomic factors throughout my life, but I never really had the language to describe everything I had experienced in what felt like a lifetime. The cohort was nothing short of educational and empowering.
The connections I built moved beyond simply being cohort members. They became genuine friendships and a real social network; women I can rely on for thoughtful advice, support, and perspective.
One moment that stands out the most was leading up to our grand finale “Narrative Story.” I had so many nerves and began to doubt whether I was capable of sharing my story, especially naming the agencies I felt had been substandard in their support. This was after months of learning about broader systems of oppression, the mindsets that perpetuate gender wealth gaps, and advocacy practices. Yet when the moment came to speak my truths, I was fearful.
I shared that hesitation with a fellow cohort member, and she reminded me that one way or another, my story deserved to be heard. WOMEN’S WAY had spent months educating and preparing us; they weren’t going to stop now.
Looking back, I laugh a little at that moment of doubt. Within six months, I had learned more than I realized and had built a shared heart space with powerful Women. Standing beside them made it clear that our voices matter.
Through WOMEN’S WAY, I learned that my story can highlight both the disparities that exist and the solutions that are possible as we move toward a more equitable society.
